United Nations Day

The United Nations has continually delivered on its mandate to ensure a safer and healthier world for present and future generations. In honor of United Nations Day, we thought we’d share a few great points on how to recognize and reduce bias when conducting performance reviews from SHRM’s HR Magazine article, “An Impartial Review: Guard Against Hidden Biases When Conducting Performance Evaluations” by Eric Krell.
Recommendations to Recognize and Reduce Hidden Biases:
- Conduct training, raise awareness.
- Define and communicate the purpose.
- Enlist help. Consider 360-degree evaluations, a panel of performance reviewers, or have your supervisor review the evaluation as well.
- Establish comfort. Strive to remove employees’ discomfort before and during the evaluation.
If you need extra help in developing more clear, concise performance evaluations, creating SMART goals or establishing a training program, let us help. Call Helios HR today at 703-471-8338.
Jeans Day 2011
Putting the ZIP on Homelessness
|
My vision for this Jeans Day is to have business meetings taking place all over the Washington area and have people ask–aren’t you a little under dressed? What a great opportunity for educating them about the homeless population in Fairfax County and what we can do to prevent and end homelessness together. As reported on the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce’s webpage, one hundred workplaces in Fairfax County and Northern Virginia, accounting for over 3,000 employees, are today participating in “Jeans Day 2011” to Put the ZIP on Homelessness. On this innovative day of community give-back, facilitated by the Fairfax Chamber and the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Partnership to Prevent and End Homelessness, businesses, local government offices and non-profits in Northern Virginia are allowing employees to wear jeans to work in exchange for a $5 contribution to End Homelessness to raise awareness about the problem of homelessness in our community and take action to end it.
