Girls in Technology Mentoring Program

Today marks the last day for the fall 2011 Girls in Technology Mentor Protégé Program. Throughout this program, members of the GIT committee which includes Women in Technology members and other professionals have partnered up with local high school-aged girls to discuss STEM career paths. The STEM Model is part of the STEM Education & Modeling Project, which is designed to help increase the number of students who pursue majors and careers in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

In each session, GIT had guest speakers, panel discussions, and time to individually pair up to discuss specific career interests. Organizations such as Pamela Ray & Associciates, LLC, UNANET, AT&T Government Solutions, 3 Ways Digital, SAIC, CGI Federal and the WIT Education Foundation all participated as guest speakers. AT&T was the program host and Symantec as the program underwriter. From October to November, the Mentors and Protégés met bi-weekly to develop an ongoing relationship which is intended to last with the help of social media and ongoing Mentor Protégé program including a spring session in 2012. Helios HR has had the opportunity to be a part of the Mentor Protégé programs for both Women in Technology and Girls in Technology and look forward to another exciting season to come.

Helios is pleased to congratulate Girls in Technology for being invited by the White House Council on Women and Girls to take a tour of the White House and engage in a discussion with the staff on the importance of mentorship and opportunity!
