United Nations Day
The United Nations has continually delivered on its mandate to ensure a safer and healthier world for present and future generations. In honor of United Nations Day, we thought we'd share a few great points on how to recognize and reduce bias when conducting performance reviews from SHRM's HR Magazine article, "An Impartial Review: Guard Against Hidden Biases When Conducting Performance Evaluations" by Eric Krell.
Recommendations to Recognize and Reduce Hidden Biases:
- Conduct training, raise awareness.
- Define and communicate the purpose.
- Enlist help. Consider 360-degree evaluations, a panel of performance reviewers, or have your supervisor review the evaluation as well.
- Establish comfort. Strive to remove employees' discomfort before and during the evaluation.
