Speaker BIO: Robert Mathias

Rob MRobert Mathias brings a broad range of skills in public affairs and government relations, corporate reputation and consumer marketing to Ogilvy. Robert is responsible for all of Ogilvy & Mather’s Washington, DC based operations including client service, talent management and business performance. Prior to assuming the leadership of the Washington office, Robert served as the head of Ogilvy’s San Francisco office. He originally joined Ogilvy in Washington in 1988.

Robert has led all aspects of account management from primary research to strategy development, messaging and tactical implementation. He advises various companies, government agencies, and not-for-profits on reputation, issues and crisis management; advocacy advertising and media relations. Robert’s passion lies squarely at the intersection of public relations and public affairs, particularly for clients who need help managing complex issues and/or building and protecting a reputation within a regulated environment.

Besides his work with Ogilvy, Robert served in President Bush’s administration (41) as the Executive Assistant to U.S. Energy Secretary James D. Watkins and subsequently as Deputy Assistant Secretary at the Department of Energy. Robert has also worked abroad in Saudi Arabia where he helped to develop and implement a kingdom-wide public health program.

He serves on the Board of Trustees of The Yellowstone Park Foundation, a private philanthropy dedicated to the protection and preservation of Yellowstone National Park. Robert is also a member of the Board of Directors for the LaGrant Foundation, a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to increase the number of ethnic minorities in the fields of advertising, marketing and public relations.

Robert holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Vermont and a master’s of business administration from the Yale School of Management.
